Fall Stay-cation

Gary and I decided to take a little stay-cation to the mountains to see the fall leaves. We had a wonderful time! The weather was great, the leaves were beautiful, and we even picked some apples.
About an hour from Richmond there is an apple orchard called Carter Mountain Orchard and they had an apple harvest festival this weekend. We went for a visit and picked some apples, ate apple cookies and apple donuts, and even drank from fresh apple cider.  We were able to walk around in the orchard and pick some ourselves, so we got some Jonagolds and Braeburns. They are delicious!

After we had our fill at the orchard, and I was pretty tired from walking up and down the mountain to pick the apples, we hopped in the car and headed to the Shenandoah National park.  We drove along Skyline Dr to see the leaves changing.

We also saw lots of wildlife including a BEAR!

We always see tons of deer, but this time we drove very close to a buck!

It was a very long day considering we got up and went to early church then left right after not returning until 9:30pm, but we had a GREAT time. When we do move back closer to home, we really will miss having such a beautiful place to visit so close by. The National Park here is gorgeous!!
